Best Chapel School was once named Contentnea School in the Contentnea Vicinity, based on a United States Geological Map. It was located off Best Chapel School Road which connected to Nooherooka Road.

CONTENTNEA HISTORY, OUR HISTORY

John Lawson and Baron von Graffenreid were captured in 1711. Lawson was tortured and killed while Graffenreid was released. This sparked the Tuscarora War of 1711-1715. Best Chapel Church and School sat on a portion of Fort Nooherooka in Snow Hill.

Hester Easter Artis Anderson mother of Daniel Artis and child of Captain John Fulcher whose family had to leave the Colony in Virginia because their Captain Fulcher their father freed them in his will of 1712. They came to North Carolina, Daniel in the Contentnea Vicinity.
